hi all
Me first brew
24 hour’s in the bucket air lock was happily bubbling. Now stopped or considerably slowed. Is this normal or should I be taking action! Temp constant 20c

The yeast came with the kit it just said premium yeast.
I did buy some Gervin English ale yeast. Could I still add this?

Hi!
Some yeasts are well-known for zooming off and finishing quickly, others are slow and steady.
I would leave it alone until it's been in the FV for 2 weeks altogether.
If you have a hydrometer check the gravity - make sure that everything that touches the beer is sanitised.
 
Hi all
Further to my airlock Stopped bubbling. To which I received some brilliant advice. As the wort is in fact still fermenting. I have now noticed a small crack in my lid where I think the gases are escaping. So I was wondering will air getting in effect y brew.

No. A lot of Forum Members just rest the lid on top of the FV or cover it with a bit of Cling Film,

I suggest you just clamp the lid down and forget about it for at least another week.

By the time the bubbles get down to one every hour (i.e. fermentation has slowed down a lot but it's still happening) you will be getting fed up of looking for it - and possibly miss it as well.

Be patient!
 
BTW have you considered using a Blow Off system?

A tube from the top of the FV rests in a bottle with some liquid in it. (I use a Thin Bleach and Water mixture - see photo.)

With only 3cm of liquid in the bottom of the bottle the tube can be left near the bottom. When I think that fermentation is finished, all I have to do is to lift the tube off the bottom of the bottle and if bubbles flow out of the tube on two consecutive days then fermentation is still in progress.

The extra volume in the bottle also beats the hell out of an airlock if the brew decides to leave the FV!

The CO2 produced by the yeast chomping away merrily on the sugars in the wort is heavier than air, and the gas pressure is pushing out of the FV, so no air can get in through the crack in the lid.
I've stopped using an airlock because my FVs won't seal tight enough around the lid.
+1 for a blow-off system.
 
These plastic buckets suck. Literally. It's fine as long as fermentation is happening, but I don't trust my beer in them once things have slowed. Bunch of infections taught me the hard way. Also any hoppy beer will suffer.
My main advice would be to not cold crash. Wrap some clingfilm around it if you're going to leave it after active fermentation. This will also help with the temptation to gaze into it lovingly like narcissus every other hour.
