Started this off on Saturday. Muntons Dark Soul from the Tap room series.
A black lager in the european style.
Its a 1 tin kit with 30 gms Hallertua Hops for dry hopping. The Yeast is a bottom fermenting lager yeast. (6gms)
It calls for 1KG of Dark Spraymalt or sugar but I did a slight variation on this to use up some Muntons Vienna LME I had frozen.
So that was half a tin of Vienna LME (750gms) and I also added 500gms of Light Spraymalt. I used light spaymalt as I bought the wrong one.
I did bring the frozen LME upto the boil first in some water to make sure any nasties were killed off from freezing.
Pitched Yeast at 16deg C and is bubbling away nicely in the brewfridge.

I thought the starting SG would be higher as its claiming about 5% abv with the 1KG of Spraymalt. I only achieved 1.044 SG and thats after adding 200gms of sugar as well to try and bring it up. The Pill reads 1.05 but I tried 2 Hydrometers both getting about the same 1.044. Assuming I can achieve 1.010 FG thats about 4.5% which is a bit low. As I was using an additional 750gms LME and 500gms DME i thought I would have hit higher. Would the DME been better over the LME in achieving the desired SG or have Muntons over stated the ABV?
