Hello!
Imagine 9 months ago, a CAMRA award winning cellarman/manager and cask ale fanatic buys a 'Coppers Microbrewery Kit', 2 months after hes gone BIAB and done 6 kits, a month after two cornies arrive, a cool box mash tun, All grain #1, kegerator, water filter kit, fermentation controllers, plastic buckets galore, home made mash flanges, hop filters, not to mention several bottles capped along the way... and its time for me to do the big dig in....
I am moving house and a requirement from the off and a kind request granted from SWMBO was a cellar. I can now at last build a brewery I can be proud of, maybe a supporting bar for research and tasting, all that is known is that its currently dry... and empty.... soon(ish) it shall be the Darcey's Cellar Brewery (predictable name.. but name work is progress..)
I have recently completed building a shiny 70L Boiler/HLT I have ordered the parts for a ThermoBox Mash tun conversion and I have plans for HERMS drawn up. This will be my postings for my brewery build.. not only the shiny but also the gubbins of electrics thru to aesthetics.
But firstly before I begin (this 1 year project at current projections).. I would like to point out that is all TheHomBrewForum.co.uk's fault for me doing all this. I was quite happy doing my coopers kits from my LHBS until I found this forum. I wouldn't like to think what I have spent so far.. but it has been brilliant and I thank you all! I wish there was a way to repay everyone for their advice and 'constructive criticism'.
***So update! Moved into the house, its time to tackle the cellar build. Its a fairly sorry state and needs a full paint job including the floor. Its not a tanked cellar but I have managed to acquire some cellar paint that acts as a tempory barrier to water and stops all mould growth for 'up to 5 years!'. So after that I have got some heavy duty floor paint for the new proofed concrete floor. So this is what its like at the moment!***
... lots of work todo!
(I would also like to point out the reason for me doing this brewing is because of my twice failed applications to Heriot Watt University for the Brewing and D BSc. And now I suspect that due to the funding changes I shall never study there, I wish to expand my knowledge of brewing for hopefully a commercial level with in the next 4 years. Not necessarily a brewer but be involved in the area beyond a pub manager.)
