Opps, I did it again.
Second AG brew, Made sure i got all the temps right this time.
BUT, got the grain bill wrong. Should have used 5kg maris otter and 500g Crystal.
Got stuck on auto pilot weighing it out and used 1kg of crystal by mistake.
Wondering what it will be like, it was very dark.
Hops were Fuggles and Goldings.

On the bright side, the brewing went very well this time. Next time i will get it right, honest.
Cheers,
Bob

I made a very similar recipe 3 weeks ago to use up the last of my grain.
I think it was something like 2kg of MO with 1kg of Crystal and 500g of Munich. It turned out alright, but not brilliant; almost like a porter in colour and in sweetness. I won't be repeating it though! :)

it will be more like Old peculiar with that much crystal just leave it three months before drinking and taste how wonderful malty brews that are left to condition can really taste

OK, I shall keep it as a Christmas beer, sounds like it might be quite nice if it turns out like Old Peculiar. Will of course have to taste it to check how it is going.

Thanks for the replies and putting my mind at rest.
Bob.

Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild uses 75% Pale and 25% Crystal to hit a gravity of 1.058 It's a smashing beer (Hopped to 30IBU IIRC).

Yes sweet, Yes Chewy, but balanced. :thumb:

The recipe i was trying to follow was Bouncing Squirrel from this sites recipe page, and as i said its the same apart from 1kg of Crystal instead of 500g.
Still, there seems a chance by all accounts that it might be alright, tasty in fact, so time and patience will tell.

But, and this is good. I have just sampled one of my first AG brew "summer lightning" and boy is it good, potent too. I think i am going to like this dark side, the force is strong in this one.

Cheers,
Bob

Summer Lightning is a fabulous beer :thumb: and as for your Bouncing Squirrel, I would suggest you try and leave it for at least 6 months  I did a Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby (as Aleman said similar to your brew), bottled in January and it is now tasting ace :thumb:

There's no turning back now
