Yep, I use it. It adds more flavour than normal crystal as the rye is kinda "spicey". I used it to bump up the body on an 80/- entry to the SCB nationals in 2004 and won!

U prob won't get away with it in a light beer though (unless you want the "rye edge" to it). Could be useful for milds and porters through.

thanks for that, think i may add a little to a strong dark red beer.
 
did this brew:
5200 maris
90 flaked barley
70 choc
120 crystal rye
60 dark crystal
20 extra dark crystal

with pacific gem and amarillo. Nottingham yeast.

result is definitely sweet and kinda spicey. Makes it a little harsh maybe. A good flavour to work with though I reckon.
