on the recipe calculator after it says caramel / crystal malt on the grain bit there are numbers like 30L or 80L

what does this mean?

Hi,

The 60L or 80L refers to the Lovibond or colour that the crystal malt will provide.

80L will create a darker colour than 60L.

Roasted Barley will have a lovibond of something like 300L.

The highest Lovibond being around 600L.
