Hiya,

I was just wondering if its worth investing in a grain mill/crusher type thing or whether you would just get the supplier to do it for you?
Could you do the pepsi challenge and tell the difference between freshly crushed or stuff thats been crushed for a few days?

Uncrushed grain keeps for ages unlike the crushed sort. That means you can buy larger grain bags and save on the carriage and get cheaper grain, and have it completely fresh. The mills of the kind home brewers use are pretty cheap (Corona Mills). If you are a committed AG brewer, it would probably soon pay for itself.

Depends on how much brewing you intend doing really. A brew a month, buy what you need for that brew, ready crushed. More than that, buy in bulk and crush it as you use it. Some say, however, that as long as it is stored properly (airtight container, and dry) that crushed malt can keep for as long as a year. One way to do it is buy in bulk and break it down into batch-sized packages. If you have access to a vacuum sealer, even better. Plenty of options and never one answer!
