Being an idiot, I accidently ordered half of my munich malt as uncrushed (250g). So I put it in a zip lock bag one grain layer thick and set to it with one (of the many) of MrsMQ's emtpy wine bottles. It was far easier than I thought it would be and took me about 5-10mins to crush it.
I wouldn't fancy doing 4-5kg of base malt like this but it got me thinking. Uncrushed grain lasts months so some of my speciallty grains I could crush like this. I could have a little stock of things that I regularly use, that I dont usually use more than 200g-400g in a brew. Things like like crystal or choccy malt

I brought my small amounts of grain crushed but made a mistake and ordered Carahell uncrushed:doh:. Now i know you shouldn't do it but( i have done 4 extract brews all small 6 litre batches using carahell with other grains) i have used the wifes electric blender to break the grain up and so far can't say i have had a problem.
I need some more and will order it crushed this time:)

You could get one of these -

Thousands of them in Costa Rica, but also all over the world if you look for them from the US to Egypt and Yugoslavia. Nobody knows who made them or what they are for, but I recon crushing grain is a pretty good bet.
