Wholesale it's about 4x that for a 25kg sack. Postage has always been the killer for homebrew supplies though

It was, the more you buy the cheaper it got.

The appeal of CML was or is the postage, yes the malts are more expensive, but your not paying £6-8 on postage for small quantities of stuff and most of the homebrew supplies have a flat rate with few exceptions that ive seen.

Exactly this. The lack of (or at least realistic and factored into the cost of the ingredients) postage on light weight items like yeast and hops meant I could just buy what I needed for the next brew and not worry about bulk buying and having half a freezer full of half open packs of hops. It meant I didn't have to buy in bulk.

Now I only have to buy grain in bulk. It's not perfect, but it's an improvement on having to buy grain and yeast and hops in bulk.

I always use CML for my yeast and hops but the weight of grain makes shipping expensive so I get mine crushed from a local brewery. It has been said on here before that a lot of brewerys are happy to provide to home brewers so do a search for one near to you and drop them a line or give them a call. I drop my local brewery an email with what I’m after and they get it ready for me to collect from their taproom. I pay £1.20 per kilo for specialist malts or a sack of base for £27.00
