Corny post problem

Hi, I have a problem with the beer out post on my corny keg. I have only just got it, it is a used one do I took it all apart and cleaned. On reassembly I noticed that the inside value part of the beer out post is protruding out of top of the post. Also putting the disconnect on is very hard, it's almost like the spring is too strong in the post.

I know I put the posts on the correct way around as the posts that are on the keg are different. Strangely the 'in' post is the type where the spring inside is held in with a little catch that makes it hard to remove. The 'out' post is the type with the spring that is more free and falls out. Anyway, I was wondering what could be causing this, the washer inside the post needs replacing but I find these are hard to come by. The washer is slightly misshapen but I wouldn't expect it to have this much of an affect.

Could be, cant take apart my others to compare as they have beer in. I have ordered some new posts anyway so hopefully that solves it. Not as happy with this keg as the last one I got. Buying used kegs seems to be a mixed bag.

Get on Aliexpress or Ebay and order from the chinese sellers, get some universal poppets and O ring kits they are cheap as chips and it does save buying the full posts unless the post is actually distorted. May not help at the mo as will take a month to come but put in the tool kit for future reference

I have ordered a few replacement o rings etc. from China as I don't really have any spares and I am up to 3 kegs now. I hate the waiting...

Can never seem to find replacement o ring for the poppet, even the o ring kits don't have them. Any idea what size they are?

Yeah just order the complete universal poppet with a seal already on, it will work on most cornies

Found some for pretty cheap on Ali, so ordered them as well

yeah get a supply of spares they are cheap enough saves all the heartache as usually its as simple as a "O" ring

An update on this, I received all my new parts. I first tried changing the out post to my new "universal" out post. The new post is a smaller spanner size but thread seemed the same so I swapped them. Now I made a big mistake here, this keg is full, I thought depressurising it would make the swap easy. How wrong I was, beer everywhere. Anyway after I swapped to the new post and gased up, the post is leaking beer from the bottom of the post, out the thread.

I have swapped back to the old post but put the new poppet/o ring in. It holds preasure but annoyingly it hasn't solved my original problem of the value protruding and it being very hard to get the disconnect on. I am at a loss as to what to do now. The brand of this keg is "Eurocan" I think.

you say it is hard to get the connects /disconnects on and off. This not uncommon and what you need is a food safe lubricant on the post and disconnects. I us KY jelly as it is odourless and sanitary that should help loads. I too get this problem and put a small and I mean small smear on each post every month or sooner if required. A tube will last a very long time. At a push use the slightest bit of vaseline until you get some Ky or similar

I do have some lubricant, I will try lubing it up again. It's the amount of force I have to apply to get it low enough for the latch to hold that worries me. My other kegs are fine, this one just seems to be giving me problems.

Disconnect post "poppets" are quite variable, use different size O-rings, different attachments (some appear to be irreversible), and are generally a PITA. Hence "universal" replacements. I could dig up some of the O-ring types used … but the universal ones are so much better. I know 'cos I went through a phase of servicing my poppets, until I discovered universal ones.

Troublesome "ball-lock" posts are not uncommon. You can even accidentally fit the wrong disconnect to a post (tricky to get apart again). The pin-lock system is much better, but circumstances has caused them to be pushed in the side-lines. I make sure I hang on to all my remaining pin-locks.

I always have a squirt bottle is starsan around and find a quick squirt helps fit the disconnect easily.

as PeeBee says as long as they seal ok some posts do seem to be a bit of a tow to get on where others go on easy. I have 11 cornies and I have the odd one or 2 posts that can be a B$£"%$d to get on and off I just use plenty of lube and pull the ring back on the disconnect and try to make sure it goes on bang square to the post

Yes, I do the same and put a smear of KY jelly on the post whenever I find it’s a bit tight to insert.
Not had a problem with Cornies though.

I had problems with a 12l keg yesterday. The gas in post was leaking and finally realised it was the gas dip tube. The tube was fine the seal was fine but as soon as i swapped it it stopped leaking. It did not leak when i took it apart so perhaps i got the parts mixed up. I will definitely leak test it before i use it again.

I have had the same problem as the OP before. I finally realised i had 2 springs in there!
