I've bought myself a second corny from Leyland Homebrew - I happened to be passing through work.

When I've sterilised and pressurised it, I was somewhat dismayed to note that the OUT post has a leak when you disconnect the QD - I also notice that I have to press down a lot harder on the OUT post to get the QD to seat and engage the ball locks.

I've taken the post apart, and compared it with the IN post and poppet, the OUT poppet (on the right in the picture) is somewhat longer than the IN one and the washer seems to be somewhat more deformed, see photo below:

Is it normal for the posts to be different for the IN and the OUT?

I'm inclined to think that the OUT poppet is incorrect and the reason I have to press harder is because it is longer and won't reseat properly once the QD is removed - the "feet" on the OUT poppet are also longer than the IN.

I wonder if I should contact the seller and ask for either the right post or a refund to the tune of the correct post as the goods aren't technically fit for purpose (in my opinion) etc.

Any help gratefully received.

I've not stripped them down but the inlet and outlet are different sizes are you trying to push the wrong qd on the post? Grey is for the gas line and black for the tap outlet sorry if I sound patronising. :thumb:

erm, good point! I'm assuming that they are on the right way round, grey for gas (IN), and black for beer (OUT) - I'll just check that the same posts are on the same way round on my other corny - as that works fine.

BRB!

alas, they the same way around on the other corny, so I guess the posts are on the right mounts.

Sorry daft question I know but worth asking IMO id approach the seller if there not sealing properly I would have thought they would check them before selling them on

As for 31bb3, take it back I'm sure they'll sort you out. Out of interest have you tried swapping the poppets between posts.

Yes and No. Most cornies have been around so long and serviced so many times it's pot luck as to what they come with  The poppets on my cornies are the same size for in and out but I bought them new with the posts so know they're fine. The poppet on the right looks chipped/dented on the seal, bet that's the problem.

I have the exact same problem on one of my Cornies but have not been able to take them apart to check the seals yet.

What do I need to take the "out" post off? There isn't enough room to turn an adjustable wrench and my socket set is not deep enough to go over it.

buy a box socket of the right size or a ring spanner of the right size (22mm is close)

I bought one of these for the purpose (£4.99) - you have to order it, but it comes next day by midday - http://www.screwfix.com/p/laser-half-mo ... 22mm/80960

Works on both posts.
