Hi guys

I've read that you don't need to prime with sugar when using a corny keg as you just force carb with gas. Does this negatively effect the flavour not using the extra sugar. Also does it mean the abv will be lower.
Cheers

Thanks for that perryni. I'm thinking of getting a keg and just working out what to go for.

Something to bear in mind. You'll need a Co2 canister and a regulator - the S30 bottles aren't high enough pressure. I ended up paying £70 all-in for my canister. Finding somewhere to sell you one is a pain, but getting them refilled is easy. I got my Co2 cylinder from gascylindersuk.co.uk

Just be mindful that kegs cornies or other are just the storage aspect of a dispensing system which includes a regulated gas supply and in 99% of cases some method of managing the temperature of the kegs, only unnecessary if you have a cellar with a constant temp ideal to serve your beers all year round.

then you need the taps and the line between the keg and tap custom fitted to restrict or balance off the keg serving pressure or some other method of pressure reduction. 3/16" microline is the usual home solution..

so the investment in a few kegs is just the thin end of the wedge, also factor in the cost of the gas supply and management as well as a kegorator which will allow you to set a keg temp. with a known keg temp you can tune the gas pressure with reference to a kegging chart
http://www.kegerators.com/articles/carbonation-table-pressure-chart.php
to set the pressure to serve and maintain optimum condition.

With the keg pressure known you can then tune the balancing line to the tap to ensure you pour beer not foam..

its a system your considering buying into.. however once set up will give you the control to serve any level of condition you want in your beer and pour easy pints time n time again.. so is worth it :drink:

Hmmmmm. Now that's certainly complicated things. A little more research and learning required me thinks.
Cheers guys.

Cornies are the best purchase I have made. Go for it!! I now have my own mini bar. Easier than bottles and a lot easier than pb
