Hi all,

I've started getting foaming from my corny keg quite bad. It started towards the end of my last batch on keg one and has continued onto the second batch on keg two. I'm serving at around 3c, all tubing kept in fridge along with keg. The beer isnt overcarbonated. I've tried releasing all pressure and using the co2 to push through slowly but still pure foam. I've taken apart the entire beer line, all reducers, legnths of 3/16 & 3/8, handheld gun and disconnect and cleaned. I've removed the out tube from the keg and there's no blockage in this either.

I've tried removing the post & tube from one keg and swapping but to no avail. The only other thing I can think of to go back to a picnic tap to see if the gun type dispenser is the issue.

This is a new issue, could air be getting in somewhere? This didn't use to happen so I'm sure my beer lines are long enough.

Any other ideas?

Cheers

Have you got opaque tubing? If not can you see where the foaming starts. If it runs without making bubbles right up to the tap then it's most likely your tap. If it starts before that there could be crud in the line that's creating nucleation points.

Does the tap you've got open cleanly for a good flow? If a tap doesn't open fully it can cause frothing. Even using a flow restrictor can cause foaming by setting it too tight, so definitely try the picnic tap if you think this new one might be the problem.

Do you have any elbows installed on the beer line?

Slow piped bends or swept bend fittings should be used where possible, 90 degree bends should be avoided.

The only time I've suffered with extreme foaming is when the dispensing tube developed (don't ask me how) a small pin hole near the top, above the beer line.

Cheers. Tom

I think I've narrowed it down to the dispensing gun. I've switched it back to a picnic tap and not getting so much foaming. No idea what's happened as it used to be fine plus I've taken it apart and cleaned it out.

This is what I was using.

Hi!
The advice on Aussie forums seems to be that pluto taps are fine as long as they are used correctly - quick open and quick close - any in-between will produce a lot of foam.
I've just fitted beer dispensers with taps that are the same - as long as I quickly fully open the tap it pours well. If I try to open the tap gently I get nowt but foam.

That's something i did not know about. Good to know.

Still got problems with foaming, looks to be coming from somewhere near keg, see attached video. I've tried changing the seals, the push on connector and the grey John guest adapter that fits it to the 3/8 tubing. Any help appreciated.
