After having a couple of St Austell's Brewery's TRIBUTE last night i fancy having a go at brewing it myself. The only problem i can see is the Cornish Gold grain, as i cant find anywhere in this country or any other country that sells it.
So any help in locating it would be most welcome.

Being fairly local to st austell and a big fan of their brews (proper job is a real favourite and i have all the bits to do a clone so look out for that one ;) ) the cornish gold malt is local cornish barley that is malted especially for the brewery - i`ve e-mailed them to see if they will sell some and hope to go on the brewery tour soon so might be able to get hold of some - if not i`ve seen clone recipes that have used vienna malt as a subsitute.

Will update if i hear back from them :drink:

I was under the impression that munich malt was the substitute for cornish gold. I did a version of Tribute the other day here

the recipe I used was

Fermentables
Ingredient Amount % MCU When
UK Pale Ale Malt 3.171 kg 80.0 % 3.6 In Mash/Steeped
UK Munich Malt 0.793 kg 20.0 % 1.7 In Mash/Steeped

Hops
Variety Alpha Amount IBU Form When
US Willamette 4.5 % 25 g 14.4 Loose Whole Hops 90 Min From End
UK Fuggle 3.6 % 20 g 9.2 Loose Whole Hops 90 Min From End
US Willamette 4.5 % 20 g 5.3 Loose Whole Hops 15 Min From End
UK Fuggle 3.6 % 20 g 4.3 Loose Whole Hops 15 Min From End
Slovenian Styrian Goldings 5.0 % 25 g 0.0 Loose Whole Hops At turn off

It's done fermenting now but I've been too busy at work to have a sample. I'll grab a wee nip out of the FV tomorrow an let you know how close it is! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

cheers for the info - great to hear some one has brewed one already, would love to hear how it turns out - don`t suppose you`ve tried proper job or brewed it

Yes Munich was what I used as well for Proper Job. It's a shame that the bottled stuff isn't a patch of the real ale :(

Could i have the recipe for your proper job clone please, I`ve put one together with a bit of research on the net but would be great to hear how yours went :thumb: I agree with you about the bottled version - lucky that quite a few places around me do it on draught

 you were spot on leedsbrew! Got this e-mail from the brewery:

Richard,

Cornish Gold malt is an exclusive collaboration between St Austell Brewery and Tucker's maltings. We jointly developed the process of producing this malt, and as part of the arrangement the malt is sold only to St Austell Brewery for brewing our beers. It is therefore not possible to buy the malt outside of this arrangement.

The nearest approximation to Cornish Gold that you could use in you home brewing would be Munich Malt, which you should be able to get from most home brew suppliers.

Regards,

Roger

:hmm: Well tuckers maltings is about 12 miles from me and I get all my grain direct from them - may be worth a little chat and a few beers donated to see what I can do

Am just drinking a bottle of tribute (I thought I would give it a go after reading this post) & to be honest I won't be rushing out to get the ingredients to make it, am not a fan too thin and wishy washy for me, hope its better on draught.

UP

UP - bottled isn`t great at all - on draught it`s a great creamy session beer, same with proper job - thats why i want to brew my own version!!
