In my personal opinion Cornwall produce the best tasting cider in the UK, what are peoples thoughts? and if you don't agree what would you consider to be the best cider making area?

Well I can see no obvious reason to disapprove this topic (although I have deleted the duplicate attempt to post), but at the same time I can see no particular reason for the post. :hmm:

Welcome to the forum, I think :wha:

Used to go to the Calestock cider farm and get loads of their own scrumpy! The smell when you walk in was immense! Can't agree more with the above comment!

I think cider from Somerset is the best. I love the cider from Hecks, in Street. Marvellous stuff.

My brother lives in Street which makes getting hold of it quite easy.

North Somerset without a doubt . Old man Pilot Richards was the cider king but there are plenty more around south of bristol and inland of Weston , the prime area in my experience . And this is coming from someone who lives and makes cider in cornwall .

My recollections of Cornish cider are not too positive. The 'scrumpy' served to visitors like myself seemed rather consistent with their resentment about intruding tourists, along with foul pasties. Somerset has more to commend itself., in terms of cider.

Word to the wise .....if its sold as "scrumpy" it is the worst left over sulphurous vinegar that is to be passed off on "emmetts" (outsiders) with the taste and quality in an inverse proportion to the price . Mind you , the foods standards and environmental health people have put a stop to much of the roadside sales of "scrumpy" or even cider in these parts . So the average quality has probably gone up a bit .

I have read about Hecks cider in the book "Cider" from Camra. I have not been able to try yet but I will be around Street at the end of January. I already know where I will be going :-)
