Hi all.

I am about to do my first ever batch of Coopers stout but I read somewhere that it's really good if you use treacle in the process. What quantity of treacle should I use and should I use less than 1kg of brewing sugar if I put some treacle in?

Many thanks.

I will be watching the replies on this post with lots of interest Dermy. I love a Coopers stout & have wanted to use treacle but never have. I always go done the route of 1kg of dark or medium spray malt with a big mug of sugar thrown in for good measure.

Brown sugar?? Maybe I'll try that....I'll wait (like yourself) and see what replies I get....thanks for that - gives me something to ponder!

I brewed the brewmaster Coopers Irish Stout and used 56g of Black treacle.

It worked a dream, could taste it but not overwhleming the rest of the drink.

Good luck with your brew

Plumpton, did you use anyting else than the treacle i.e DME, beerkit enhancer, sugar etc.?

Hi all.

I brewed a batch of the above and just used the bog-standard 1kg of brewing sugar and carbonation drops....I tried a bottle tonight (a week after bottling) and I must say it's FANTASTIC - I highly recommend anyone who likes stout or indeed any beer to give this a go. I've only been brewing for a few months (mostly Coopers lagers) and they've all been good but this is the first brew I've made that I was genuinely WOWED by. Gorgeous. Can't wait to try it after it's been conditioned for a few weeks.
