Just wondering if the extra £3 or so is worth it for the coopers stout kit or is the wilkos dark velvet stout just as good??

Wait until there's a sale on, get the Wilko's one for £8, spend £1 on a tin of black treacle to add to it.

I'm enjoying my coopers and have a wilko carbonating now. Hard to judge at this point but at the same stage the coopers was a bit better, more mouthfeel. That said, the wilko isn't bad at all so it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

My mate has Wilkos triple velvet on the go,he used brewing sugar but not ready yet, I have coopers stout on the go, fermenting at the moment, used 500g dark spray malt,250g soft brown sugar, tin of treacle, hope it works, will let you know what happens

During the recent Wilko sale, I picked up a few of each and can heartily recommend a 6 Gall (27L) brew with a Coopers and a Wilko kit. Used the Coopers yeast, plus a kilo of sugar. At 25% off it came out at well under 20 quid for the brew and it is great. Tad on the strong side for Guinness drinkers, perhaps. :drunk:

To be fair, Stout is probably the easiest for a relative beginner and almost anything works OK.

As close to Bomb Proof as it gets.

Have done both these kits recently, both with 1kg beer enhancer. I find the Coopers stout richer, maltier and more full bodied - although the wilko stout is pretty good too (which is good because I still have almost 40 bottles of it!).
The yeast that comes with both these kits is brilliant.

The wilko stout is winning for me so far, although it's not really a like for like comparison as the wilko kit had treacle added to it.

Strangely, my wilko kit is well carbonated but has zero head when poured which is frustrating. Is that likely to be down to using fairly liquid to clean up the bottles?
