Hi
Haven't brewed for a while but I've just started two Mexican cerveza kits on Sunday in coopers barrels. I've done this kit before and it came out really well.

When I walked into my garage today and could smell a slight eggy smell. Took the lid off (I know I shouldn't!) and the smell was overpowering! There is a lot of sediment at the bottom of the barrels. Does all this sound ok as I don't really remember what they were like last time round! Both barrels are at 20c

Thanks

Yep, mine stank. I think most lager style brews tend to have a bit of an egg smell. I have made two cider kits and they also stank of sulphur.

Not had the problem with any ale kits though mind you, maybe it's the type of yeast/fermentables that are used

Lager yeast = Eggs. I stashed a bucket of lager at the end of my mums shed. The look on her face on the 2nd/3rd day when she confronted about the smell was priceless. "Have you smelt the shed? I think somethings gone off in there."

First thing i thought of was a neighbours cat until i clicked about the lager.

Back on topic, the smell will mainly subside as the fermentation starts to slow, say 4/5 days in.
