I've got some Ginger beer on the go. It's coming up due to be bottled and I was wondering what people would recommend on the amount of priming sugar to use?

I'm going to be using 1lrt bottles and would like a bit of fizz.

Thanks people.

British-style ales 1.5 - 2.0 Porter, stout 1.7 - 2.3

Belgian ales 1.9 - 2.4 European lagers 2.2 - 2.7

American ales & lagers 2.2 - 2.7 Lambic 2.4 - 2.8

Fruit lambic 3.0 - 4.5 German wheat beer 3.3 - 4.5

I would go for high carb beause you won't get a great head on your beer, so you're looking at 3-4 volumes. I recommend brown sugar for ginger beer - you could also boil some ginger into the priming sugar if you want it hot!

does 8.2g sound about right how would go about adding a bit of boiled ginger as you suggest?

Sorry I'm a bit of a noob.

it comes up at 160g priming sugar for me which sounds more on the ball. don't worry, we're all here to help :)

if you're going to prime the whole batch then heat and dissolve the sugar in a few hundred ml of water, then stir it into the batch thoroughly and bottle up or keg.

if you want to add fresh ginger just chop up and skin an inch or two, then add that to this solution and boil for 20 mins. that's totally optional though, coopers kits taste good with no fiddling around :)

What's this coopers ginger beer come out like, it looks like it could be worth getting on the go ready for summer

I am just about to rack it off into a cornie. I was going to go for 3.5 vol/CO2. As its not really a beer I dont think it will take too long to mature so may give it a taste in about a week. Having said that like all my kit beers its been in primary for 2 weeks and a secondary for another 2 so its prob cleared up alot of the by-products. Used Nottingham as I couldnt come up with a better alternative.

I'll post with pics or maybe do a separate post as to the results.
