Took a sample of the brew tonight after 7 days at around 18- 20c. Sg 1018 and very cloudy, tasted sweetish. I will leave this for another week in fv i think. :wha:

Ok, so i drew my first sample today - day 7.

(OG = 1.038)
Today's sample = 1.012 / not quite as cloudy as i was expecting / tastes like... well, flat lager.

Conclusion - i will probably wait till day 10 before drawing another sample hoping that SG will drop yet.
but all in all, happy days, as this is my first brew i am hoping for anything other than complete disaster and so far so good. I was hoping to have this ready for xmas but have to accept that aint gonna happen, but this all started by grabbing a can off the shelf, i didnt do any research untill afterwards.

All ready planning my next brew, this could go places.

Yeah mate, happy.
curious thing, the bubbler activity virtually stopped 2 days ago, but after removing the lid this morning and taking my sample its started bubbling away every couple of seconds. have my actions somehow re-triggered the fermentation? is this a common thing?

I removed the lid, siphoned out a small amount, put my hydrometer in fv, took reading, lid back on, every thing sterilised before, no splashing or anything.

Hi mate, my airlock never bubbles as the co2 must escape through the lid of my youngs starter fv, so i have to have an odd peek in, and take reading around the expected time of finished formenting, and take it from there. Must get a second fv that the lid seals on properly.

sample today came in at 1010 so has dropped a wee bitty, would be good if it will go down to 1006 / 1008

Tested mine yesterday, down to 1012, so on the drop. Im hoping for 1006 or 1008 also . It will be sunday 16th before i'll get a chance to bottle.

I have the coopers original (green and white label) its been I'm my CV for 6 days now and my gravity reading tonight was 1.009, I am going to take another reading tomorrow and if it has stabilised I am going to transfer to my keg and leave it till Xmas eve as the instructions say it will be ready in 3 weeks total. This is also my first ever brew so I'm not expecting it to be the best but drinkable for Xmas eve

Barrelling lagers is a mistake IMO. Unless of course you are using a properly pressurised keg or a chilling technique to soak up loads of CO2.

Thank god for that mate, maybe i can leave mine alone for at least 12 weeks after bottling. :D

Mine went into bottles last night - 41 of. sitting by the stove for the next 2 weeks.

Just finished bottling mine, fg 1008 so well pleased. It was in fv for 13 days and all went well. In warm cupboard [ hotpress ] for a couple of weeks. Going to my local homebrew shop tomorrow to get a woodfords nog, or admirals reserve...... or a st peters ruby red, not sure which as i havnt tried any of them. Ive been a lager and guinness man for many years but want to do it all :D :thumb:

couldn't wait any longer, cracked one open today to see what's happening:-

cracking colour, crystal clear, no odd smells.
very little carb, no head.

Over all am happy but will leave in the warmth for another week or so before sticking up the loft to condition for a while. well i was hoping for anything other than a complete disaster and as long as these carb up a bit more it will be a decent beer for my first go.

Happy days.

Got 2 bottles of this from loft tonight for quality control reasons , around 6 weeks in bottle, well pleased, starting to get there, will sample again in march
