Converted a few people at the weekend.

Hi All, hope everyone had a good weekend.

I had a few friends round on Saturday for a few drinks; I told them they didn’t need to bring anything as I had a batch of Coopers Lager that was ready for drinking.

When they turned up one had 8 cans of 1664 and the other some cans of Becks and the other some Carling, they all seemed to be hesitant to try the brew. I slung all the cans in the fridge and poured each one a pint of Coopers………….. 20 pints later between four of us I think it was safe to say they have taken to the brew. We then went on to try a Nelsons Revenge, Colne Valley and I don’t really remember much more after that.

One of the guys called me yesterday asking how he can get involved in making brew as he liked it so much!

The only downside to all of the above is that I now have around 20 cans of shop lager in the fridge which I think will end up down the charity shop.

Well done that man :thumb: have had a similar reaction myself as have others on the forum, it's amazing how they are initially wary until the first pint goes down :drink: doesn't take 'em long to cotton on :drunk:

I remember a mate (who only drank lager) tried a small sample of my AG OAAYuma Brew, he kept coming back for more :drunk: and when that ran out his lad poured him a can of lager :sick: which promptly got poured away as Paul suddenly didn't like it any more :lol:

Same here. I had family over last weekend, much the same story. After passing round a couple of samples of my beer everybody settled on drinking my chocolate vanilla stout. I'm down to 2L from 24L of which I've drunk roughly 2L. Gutted isn't the word

Next thing is to invite them over for a brew day, so they can see how it's done, and before you know it, you'll be drinking their beer :mrgreen:

Nice one! I am planning on trying to convert some friends too! The more people you know that brew, the more variety you can have!

The only downside is that they'll drink all your hard work :nono:

sounds a bit like me , was a lager drinking and went to a german beer festival , ain't really wanted pub lagers (well def cans anway i guess i can put up with a draft lager ) trust me to now want wheat beers which is as rare as rocking horse **** by me

In contrast, over xmas, one family member wouldn't even give my homebrew a try, while another didn't want to, but finally relented with the tiniest of sips before declaring it tasted weird and opted for a can of Pedigree instead

Although, this says nothing about my beer (which is regarded as pretty good by almost everyone I know) but a lot about their attitude :x

I've had the same response from some people. There are the people that are desperate for your brew to finish so that they can try it and then the majority that just give you a funny look and think your weird.

Of course its possible that I am just weird.... :whistle:

I had someone turn their nose up at my brew in December, but I have only ever seen him drink Fosters in the 12 years I have known him so its obvious he has no class or taste :grin:

My brother in law refused to try my beers for around 30 years, to the point of whenever they came round Christmas evening he bought his own :shock:. Around 3 or 4 years ago he forgot to bring any so had to slum it. By the end of the evening he wanted to know the In's and outs of a cats arse, every year since all he wants to know when he arrives is how many barrels do I have on offer to sample. His loss over all those years.

Yeah i had that happen to me at new year. I'd brewed a keg of wherry for a big party at my girlfriends and apart from one other person no one else even tried it. Most of them were drinking carlsb*rg, peasants!
Still their loss was my gain :drink:

my mates coming over for a brew day on thursday he sampled by brew some 20 odd years ago (when i last brewed) and since telling him i'm back at it he's gonna get into it too but in march as he's moving first etc. best get some kegs out to try and impress him he's a cider man really but likes my wheat beers hopefully a new brewer soon then

A guy at my work looked at me like I said I was eating 3 day old chinese takeaway out of the bin.
Acted like it would be a bit manky making and drinking your own beer at home. I did ask why it was any different to him cooking his dinner in the kitchen, or making a cup of coffee.
Never got an answer but then don't get any sarcasm off him anymore either!
