Connecting wort chiller to tap

I'm building myself an immersion chiller and have successfully coiled my 10mm pipe, but I'm now having a massive problem figuring out what I need to hook it onto my kitchen tap. I could just jubilee clip some 10mm hose onto the chiller but I can't see any adapters to run that to my tap on the other end. Hose adapter manufacturers seem quite coy about the dimensions of hose they work with, so even if I go down the route of compression fitting a wider pipe to my chiller, I don't know what hose I'd then need to attach.

If anyone can link me to some parts or even just tell me how to decipher the descriptions I would be hugely grateful.

Hello.

I had a similar conundrum. I simply used a hose from an outside tap, which has a standard screw on fitting, and then jubilee clipped it on to the 10mm copper pipe, which I had wrapped several turns of electrical tape round.

Same for the outflow.

Worked fine for me, but I'm looking for a more permanent solution. There was a little bit of leakage.

Since the first use I have also put a joint in to the hose about a foot from where they connect to the copper pipe, so that it is easy to store the hose and chiller separately.

You could go with a hozelock and multi-tap adapter for your kitchen tap.

Thanks guys. I ended up going to a diy shop where they were actually almost as knowledgeable as me but after a lot of pondering I bought the hose in the (link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00U6PCGBU/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20) which with a bit of wiggling slides right over the end of my 10mm chiller, and so far seems leak free even without clips. An overpriced solution but at least everything fits and is leak free now. Thanks for your help.

Get a screw in diffuser with an external thread for connecting hozelock connectors. I got mine from B&Q for a few quid. I'll paste a link when I get home...

Plus some plumbers PTFE tape as the brass couplers are designed for 10mm pipe and my wort chiller was made with 9.5mm copper pipe. 5-6 layers of PTFE tape bulks out the width of the copper tube so the olive fits more snugly for a better seal once tighten up.*

It does take fijiting to get it right.
As for water, I just put the outlet in the tub. When I'm finished, I have hot water to clean all the pots.

Easy (once I'd bent the copper), and simple/ cheap fittings. Big fan of jubilee clips - no leaks to date. :thumb:
