Commonly used abbreviations

I wonder if this could be made into a sticky and the more experienced posters add to it?


As a beginner this forum can be quite difficult to read when people use abbreviations for stuff you've never heard of, here is a list of a few I found along with answers from other members:

FV Fermentation vessel (brew bin etc)

MLF Malolactic Fermentation
RGJ
SG Specific Gravity

To save further embarrassment Malolactic Fermentation is usually written as M L F not MiLF which is something very different, and way off a brewing forum subject. I have corrected your post above. :thumb:

AJ - Apple Juice
OJ - Orange Juice
DJ - Demi John
SG - Starting/Specific Gravity
OG - Original Gravity
FG - Finish Gravity
OTOH - On The Other Hand
IIRC - If I Recall Correctly
YMMV - Your Measurements May Vary
FV - Fermenting Vessel

having looked at the Glossary (top left of home page) MLF isn't in there... it's Mother's Later Fermentation - MiLF is Mother In Law's Fermentation ... :whistle:
I do get confused over this, the M-I-L is quite acidic (but definitely not MILF I hasten to add)

* for clarity:
M L F - Malo Lactic Fermentation - conversion of malic acid to lactic acid.
M I L F - a female who has already born progeny, but who is still considered desirable for a bit of nooky.
