Who gets complacent on sanitation?

Even more compulsive now than I was originally 😇. Started off rinsing with tap water after VWP clean/sanitise. Now everything get rinsed/soaked in Chemsan for at least 3 minutes before use, often a lot longer. I'd be so upset with myself if I had a spoiled batch, it's bad enough worrying about all the other technique parts of brewing, at least sanitation is something we can do consistently and easily.

I have changed what I do a bit... When I bottle I sanitise all the bottles in a big bath of starsan, and when the beer is in the bottles I rinse out the FV and wash it in the same bath. I then put a lid on it, then when the next boil is cooled I just pour it in from the kettle. No problems so far but it hasn't been forever!

I clean everything after it has been used, before putting it away. It gets cleaned again before use. Everything cold side that needs to be sanitised gets cleaned and then the Starsan/Chemsan treatment. But I have still lost 3 brews in 7 years due to infection.

I wouldn't be allowed to use my bath like that I fear :laugh8:

I see it like leaving the house. I understand the risks, so spend a minimal amount of effort to shut all my windows and lock the doors. I then don't need to worry or even think about being burgled by an opportunist. Nor do I concider it as compulsive, irrational behaviour, or go overboard locking all my valuables in a safe. I could leave the upstairs windows open and get away with it on most occasions, but I'd always have that niggling worry in the back of my mind. Or return home to find everything has gone, or its rained heavily and anything near a window is soaked.

If I get lazy, I make bad beer.
Indeed, seldom do people see beyond the binary of good beer or totally ruined batch, when off flavours and the other effects of contamination can be subtle, but detrimental.

Except bottles you forget about for a couple of years that get full of snails...like I did..took lots of bleach to fix them.
That's odd, usually a bit of salt sorts out slugs and snails. Never tried Bleach Traps for the little blighters.

I read somewhere that slug pellets used on an agricultural scale cause issues with water quality, but don't see bleach as the solution.

....bleach for cleaning. I put the bottles through several bleach soaks to get all the slime and other stuff shifted.

I know, I was being obtuse. Pardon my idiosyncratic humour, please!

Clean & sanitize everything after use each time. Some things are wrapped after fully drying before being stowed away. Of course, others not involved in boiling are sanitized immediately before use.
