Hi guys.

I have a Wyeast Activator pack of 1469 West Yorkshire Ale yeast that is about a year over its best before and a Whitelabs 037 Yorkshire Square yeast that is two months past its best before.

I am likely to be brewing a bitter on Sunday and am not sure if that is enough time to fully step up the WLP037 (if its still any good) so I was thinking of trying to revive the 1469 as well to get as many viable cells as I can and combining them in the brew.

Can anyone see any obvious problems with this strategy? Would you just stick with the 037?

Jim

How old were the yeasts you tried Mark? Do you think there is any hope for the one only 2 months over the best before?

I have used yeast 2-3 months past their date, just takes more time, a year might be pushing it.

I agree that it's a long shot but for the sake of a bit of DME its worth a try I hope.
