CO2 problem

My keg requires some CO2 from the gas bottle, but when I screwed it into the valve at the top of the barrel, the CO2 left the gas container but did not go into the barrel, just sort of fizzed outside the valve. Never had this problem before. Any idea how to correct it?

If it's an S30 valve they have a o-ring in a groove just inside the hole ar the top. Sounds as though that could be missing or damaged?

Cheers YC, I've no idea what sort of valve it is, it's the same one as on my King King, which works perfectly. I may have to take it back to the retailer for further investigation. Thanks for your reply.
