I'm bottling two batches later on today, an all-grain American Pale and a Woodforde's Wherry kit, wondering if I need to clean and sanitise my racking cane between batches or if I can be a lazy sod and just move it to the adjacent second vessel once I've finished with the first.
If I simply err on the side of caution then yes, of course I should clean up fully between batches, but I'm trying to understand the need for doing so rather than 'just because'. Assuming both vessels are free of infection the only cross-contamination will be a few ml of beer #1 in the first bottle of beer#2 since I'd be literally moving the cane a few inches in a matter of seconds. I could always give it a perfunctory rinse with sanitiser but sometimes a half-arsed effort is worse than no effort at all.
What do you guys think?
