Does anybody know if I will be able to use this in the place of pure Maple Syrup without any negative tastes / effects?

It's loads cheaper and I use it in puddings and its nice tasting but I was wondering if anyone on here has used it in beer?? What is Carob fruit syrup and would any off tastes be produced during fermentation??

It's to go in a Maple Rauchbier i'm in the process of planning.

not aware of the specific maple syrups but I can't see them being any different to honeys and what you normally use. They shouldn't give any particular off flavours. They are all fermentable sugars so should work o.k. They will probably give a slightly different flavour/taste but hey that's what home brewing is about. You might like it better.

I'd avoid anything with preservatives if you can. Pure maple syrup is just sap boiled down to thick sugary goodness. If it's imitation syrup it's probably some form of corn syrup with artificial flavors and colors. I wouldn't put that stuff in my beer.

Sorry, though I had posted a link to it yesterday:

Thanks for the help guys, it seems as though there are no artificial nasties in it....

I've just been reading up on Carob fruit and found this:

"Carob is typically dried or roasted, and is mildly sweet. In powdered, chip, or syrup form it is used as an ingredient in cakes and cookies, and is used as a substitute for chocolate"

Sounds perfect to go in a Porter / Rauchbier winter recipe...........i think i'll go for it.
I've decided that my aim for this beer is that i want "Something you'd want to cook ham in"

Missed the carob bit!

I have some from cyprus, been intending to make a dark ale with it. It's something like 50% sugar as a fruit (or whatever it is,) not sure on the content of the syrup (it's in cypriat you see, hahah.) But I would consider adding the syrup gradually to get an idea of the flavour, as I have no idea what it's going to be like! hahah.

lemme know how you get in, very interested to see your result

i've made a few maple syrup wines/meads with both pure and artificial syrup and you can really taste the difference not sure about with beer but if i where you i'd splash out on getting some 100% stuff
