Cider from Aldi 100% natural apple juice

Some time ago I was told that people have been making Cider from the Aldi 100% natural apple juice. The guy at the local brew shop said that he had some good reports about it.

I tried some before I made it and the juice was sweet enough, so I did not add anything to it. Has anyone made any Cider this was before and if so how did it turn out?

I done my first a few weeks ago....20 litres Asda juice,2 TSP citric acid (Wilko),2tsp yeast nutrient (Wilko)8 teabag black tea half litre and CML cider yeast. Tried a couple on the weekend...very good for a first go!
 
Chuck in some lowitz syrup - raspberry and cranberry is my fave - and bingo, you have a cider to rival any of the commercial dark fruity stuff.
Personally I don't bother with citric acid or nutrient. I just put 2 teaspoon of lemon juice and 2 teabag black stewed tea per 4l and let it do it's thing.
If you do use a fruit syrup like lowitz, half a bottle per 4l is more than enough
With the extra sugar it comes out about 5.5% abv
 
Made it many times, turns out like Thatchers.
I use sweet cider yeast from Hambleton Bard £4.50 for 2 packets.
5 strong t bags in a ltr of water for 30 minutes
yeast nutrient
20 ltrs of Aldi pure apple juice
topped up with 3ltrs of water
ferment out to 1.000
normally a week then bottle with 325g of sugar
2 weeks condition at 20 degree
chill and drink
job done

Tried lots of different yeasts including Champagne yeast,but this seems to be just right, alot turn out dry and watery
 
It is great to hear that it turns out well. I think I will try the fruit next time. I was going to add some lemon juice but thought I would just do to the basic this time and experiment next time.

One thing though why the t bags and would u be best adding them now or leave it till the next brew?

I’m really interested in this but never looked in to it... what’s the tea bags and citric acid for?

It adds tannin,instead of buying wine tannin powder

I did a turbo cider last year using just apple juice (Lidl) with some sugar added. Added the stewed tea and lemon juice, and used Coopers kit yeast (recommended on YouTube) bottled into 1L bottles primed with 1tsp of sugar and 2 Canderel tablets. It came out really light, sweet and fizzy just how we like it, really lovely chilled....Absolutely took my head off, I didn't take readings but I'm guessing somewhere 9-10%. In the end I'd have just one bottle on its own in an evening, might have over done the added sugar a tad.
 
Make sure you don’t put the bags in the fermenting bucket,just the fluid lol
It is a good job you said as I was thinking along the lines of a hop bag. Do you know the measurements as so far I have done a 2 gallon FV. I will not put it in this time but will try it for sure next time.

Did I read this right Larry, when you bottled you used 1 tbsp of sugar and 2 carb drops together? I was only going to use the 2 carb drops, or will that not be enough for this cider?

I found i didn't need tea bags, couldn't tell much difference. Just juice and plenty of yeast.
This is how I have made it this time, as it is the first time. I will look at adding things later and I must admit that I do like the idea of the fruit to make a berry cider. When I spoke to the guy at the home brew shop he said some people have also chopped up fresh apples and put them in to give it a bit of tart. Sure that must be like using the tea, depending on the type of apples used.

To be honest i had not drunk cider for yeast but wanted to try the turbo thing out. I didn't realise it would be so dry so rather than using sweeteners i just add fresh juice to take the edge off. I have read you can reduce apple juice down to a syrup and add that to your cider to make toffee apple cider. I have done it with cyser but it was quite sharp without extra sweetening.
