Has anybody tried making this before??? Or does anybody know of a chocolate mint stout all grain recipe???? I fancy making this in time for christmas!!!

Thanks

Never heard of it Luke, what are you thinking plenty of chocolate malt and steeping mint from the garden :hmm:

Heard/seen people discussing it before but never heard anyone report back after making it! Maybe it did them in? :D

Well, i got the idea from titanic brewery, they brew a vanilla and chocolate stout at the moment and that tastes pretty good. I've searched a few forums and they seem to use chocolate malt and add more chocolate, but most of these forums are american so I'm not sure what chocolate they add. With the mint, I have read that you add fresh mint to the FV. Just wondered if anybody had tried this before!!!

Luke

Chocolate porter is a pretty popular one. The trick is to toast loads of cocoa nibs (brings out the flavour and sterilises them) and chucking them in the fermentor.

I don't know about the mint though...rather than "mintyfying" a whole 25L of brew  could be possible to prime with a mint liquer in the bottle. To work out how much you'd have to spend an evening mixed creme de menthe with your beer :thumb:

Hope that's no too off the wall :hmm:

Cheers

I like it, maybe I'll have a play this weekend and see what i come up with!!!

Thanks

Aled sounds an interesting porter, but where's the best place to buy cocoa nibs, found some via google but they were pricey

I've found them in health food and organic shops...good places by the way for flaked grains too!

They are expensive but if you're making a 6%+ beer anyway it's worth it. It'll be cheaper than the bottle of creme de menthe
