I use the tip of a teaspoon worth of Sodium Metabisulphate in the 40 litre HLT.
If i'm organised this stands for about 10 hours overnight (if i'm not it gets 30minutes!)

I've found the article in BC (March2009) which is very informative. I add a whole tablet to about 50 litres of liquor and understand from the article that that as well as removing the chlorine or chloromines any residue will help later in the process by forming reductones .
However I cannot see any guidelines regarding contact time unless I've missed it. I normally add the water and campden tablet immediately before heating the mash liquor but would greater contact time be beneficial?

As Pittsy says, no real contact time is needed if you put teh crushed CT or metabisulphite solution in the vessel and then fill. If you do it the other ways round give it a stir and wait 5 minutes. . . by the time the liquor is up to temperature the reaction will have taken place anyway.
