I had a bon fire in the chimneya on monday. Does any one know if the ashes are suitable to put on my compost heap. All I burnt was wood and paper.

If it is only wood and paper it'll contain potash and the equivalent of caustic soda, compost it and it'll be fine for plants. If you leave it "raw" and put it on them it can scorch their roots and kill them.
