This is the first time i have heard that sleeping pills turn normal people into racists :doh:




Roseanne Barr has blamed sleeping pills for her tweet likening an African-American former Obama aide to an ape.

The comedian said on Twitter her offensive post was a result of "ambien tweeting" - although she has since removed this comment. Ambien is a sedative used as a sleeping aid.

Barr's tweet said Valerie Jarrett was the child of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Planet of the Apes film.

ABC has cancelled Roseanne's sitcom in response to the racist tweet.

The television network said: "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values and we have decided to cancel her show."

The reboot of her hit sitcom Roseanne has been a ratings winner.

Barr deleted Monday night's post and said she was leaving Twitter, but has since posted a flurry of tweets including one claiming other comedians "have said worse".

In another tweet, the TV star said what she did was "unforgiveable" and, while asking fans not to defend her actions, tried to explain away the post as having been caused by the effects of the sedative Ambien.

Potentially.... and I don't know much about Ambien, being under the influence of a drug might affect one's inhibitions, lessening them by degree. However, if that's the case then it could be said that that kind of racist outlook is what is sitting beneath the veneer of social civility she shows?

That being the case, her mouth spouted something she would normally keep to herself.
There seems little room these days for people to actually genuinely say sorry, without some kind of background excuse making? I have little respect to be honest for conditional apologies. A straight up apology with no attached conditions goes a long way......

What's all the fuss about? According to the 'experts' we are all descendents of apes and 'out of Africa'. Lol lol lol etc.
 
From what I saw of her photo, she is not obviously black, looks more Hispanic to me. Not that I would equate any peoples being closer to other forms of ape, as we all appear to have diverged from the primate family tree at the same point.

She used to be massive back in the day and as the article says her new show is a rating winner she is whether you like it or not a celebrity and saying what she did about a black person is not acceptable and hardly unimportant.

I’m not sure it matters much but:

Her parents are both African-American. On the television series Finding Your Roots, genealogical research and DNA testing indicated that Jarrett also has French, Scottish, and Native American ancestry.

So I guess she’s probably ‘black enough’ to take extreme offence at being called a monkey.
