Hi all. New here, but thought that I would just remind people to check their local classifieds to find any home brew bargains. Saw an advert in my local paper and picked up 3 D/Js and 2 half size D/Js (all glass - and the smaller ones are going to be perfect for my sloe gin!) I also picked up a blackberry brandy recipe to boot! All of this for less than the price of one from the shops, and less distance to travel!

Right, time to get some more D/J's on the go...

Callum.

I'm new to home brewing myself and keep checking ebay but the few (extremely cheap) glass DJ's that have come up are no where near me.

Fantastic result for you though!

How much did that run you?

About £7.

Don't forget to check the local papers. I like to check ebay, gumtree etc.. but like yourself they're often too far (and I don't drive), but I find that the local papers and adverts in newsagents and the Co-op etc usually have something. Perhaps it's an age thing? I don't think I've ever got second hand D/Js from anyone under the age of 60, and perhaps the majority of these are more comfortable putting a local advertisement out, rather than doing it through the internet?

Time to pitch the yeast in a RGJ + Cranberry and Blueberry WOW variant, in a new D/J.....

Also register on your local freecycle group - I've got 8 demijohns recently for free through my local group  :drink: :drink: :drink:

I'm on my local freegle group in Morecambe.... along with a good 1/2 dozen others who are on the lookout for DJ's, keep missing out!! Never thought about local papers though, good thinking :thumb:

Even with the wonders of the internet these days, it's still sometimes pays to go to good ol' fashioned paper! :)

Hey sounds like a bargin!
Any chance you could message me the recipe for the blackberry brandy!?
Sounds lush!!

I'll post it on the recipe section so all can see it if anyone wants it.

Callum.

EDIT: Posted the recipe in the recipe section, tried to do a link to it here but can't because I'm a new member, but hopefully you'll find it.

There's another place to look and that's Facebook. There's a page/group????? (not on Facebook myself) that's just local to me which lets people to either ask for things they're after or advertise items which they want to sell. There may be something similar around your neck of the woods.

I've placed a few ads on gumtree, freecycle etc, asking for unwanted DJs and brewing equipment, but nothing has come up so far. Anyone I've met who has actually tried homebrewing has usually done so in huge old food grade plastic buckets rather than glass DJs. I haven't tried any car boot sales or anything yet, but I suppose that's worth a try!
