I am going to buy a couple of the Brupak World Beers Belgium Christmas Ale. They are brewed to 10L so the plan was to bre 2 to make it up to 20L using the kit yeast.

So far I have not experimented with changing the yeast so thought about brewing one with the kit yeast and the other with a different one. I could reclaim yeast from a bottle or use dried, does anyone have any recommendations?

Secondly would it be ok to brew 10L of beer in a 30L FV?

Cheers

You can brew it in a 30L, but you will want to move it from the vessel very quickly after fermentation, you run a high risk of infection.

I can't recommend you a good yeast for that beer nor do I know what the brupaks yeast is like, but good luck! swapping out is usually a good idea

The only dried Belgian yeast is T58. You could try and culture up a yeast from a bottle of Orval or similar. T58 kicks off a lot of sulphur when fermenting but judging by results so far (nothing ready to drink yet), its a fantastic little beast.

10l of beer is OK is a 30l fv but bear in mind you will be losing out on the benefits of scale or lack thereof, with regards to dead space etc.

Cheers for that jonewer :thumb:

I had contemplated making a starter from a bottle of chimay but have heard it is not easy. Is Orval easier? May be worth a try as it is really nice!
