Last night I finished bottling my second brew (St Peter's Golden Ale) using the old fashioned capper and hammer.

Most of my bottles were Badgers Hopping Hare (clear bottles) I had about 10 bottles where the cap did not go on properly and I had to start again with a new cap and a lot of muttering and cursing from myself!

This is in contrast to my first kit which were all brown bottles(various) where I had no problems capping at all.

I just wondered if anyone else has had problems with the Badgers Hopping Hare bottles?

Yep used them at a friends, had the same issue. He had a few other bottles where the caps wouldn't go on , I will have to ask him what they were

Interesting, thanks for your reply.

I will certainly avoid using the Hopping Hare bottles in the future, far too much trouble. Unfortunately I didn't have any other bottles to use so fingers crossed that the caps I eventually got on will seal the bottles ok.

I wonder if other Badger bottles are also troublesome?

I've managed to cap Badger bottles using a two handled capper, however sometimes the capper does have trouble gripping the sides of the bottle and it takes a good few attempts to get the cap sealed. I think for reasons like this one day I will move to a bench capper, although I'm still a bit unsure as to whether they actually get fixed to the worktop or not. If they do then they're a no go in this house.

I don't have one myself but used one in the past, I only have one of those two handled thingamebobs

BrewUk sell a counter top capper that works well as a stand alone capper, although it works better if it is bolted down on a work surface (an understanding SWMBO may be required!)

I acquired some 660ml Heineken bottles recently, and had real problems trying to cap them yesterday,so another one to avoid :(
