I'm looking for a new printer for my computer. It doesn't have to be the greatest one on the market, but replacement ink price is an issue due to having three kids who will print cr@p all day and waste it. As long as it has the basic features thats ok for me.

I see there are various photo printers on the market. Are these sort of machines worth the money that they are asking for them. I know that ink lasts longer if you use it less, but once again, can you recommend one that has cheap ink replacements.

Thanks all :thumb:

Neil

I have a Canon ip4300 thats a few years old and has been great :thumb:

I get ink from First Call Inks on Amazon - and it is high quality / does not dry out / lasts well - and MUCH cheaper - around £15 for 2 full sets :thumb:

They say that the kodak printers are cheapest on the inks however I also read that if you are not going to use it for photo's (which i don't as theseare cheaper than printing yourself ) then go for a colour laser as they are cheaper in the long run. That is what i am doing when mine runs out of ink next time.

I am feed up of buying cartridges so that the kids can print out endless drivel (bit harsh they are only 6 and 8).

Yeah I have a Samsung CLP315W Colour Laser, and am well pleased with it.

Cost wise I buy a set of cartridges from Amazon and they last about 9-12 months (sometimes more, My daughter was doing an art GCSE at the time  ) cost around 100 quid for the set. . . . which is somewhat better than the 234 quid for the carts for my Epson

Looks like a winner I seem to be spending £30 every few weeks.

If you google "CISS" this is the best solution for ink and will last months and save you £££'s  will fit most printers.

I know what you mean mate, mine are 6 and 9 and print the same rubbish. Usually it ends up in the bin and when I ask them about it the usual reply is " don't worry, you can afford it" :wha: .

I have one on my 'Other' Epson ;) Excellent solution if you are printing a lot, otherwise they can be a complete PITA though as the inks dry up and block the heads . . . although that is probably unfair it is the type of ink (Dye Based) I have to use in my 1290s . . .the 3800 uses pigment inks which appear to be less prone to blocking (Or I print More :wha: :wha: :wha: )

Now where have i heard that one before :hmm:

Epson are quite good on ink because you replace the colours individually rather than not using the other colours or using them to mix to black...

The thing that'll save you the most money is printing efficienctly - you won't believe how many people print black text in needlessley high quality. Always check what you're printing before you do!

I've had a good look around the web and tried Tesco up the road from me. They had some Epsom printers knocked down from £99.00 to £49.00 but I couldn't find the ink prices.

What is a good all round printer for no more than £50.00 which you can buy cheap replacement ink for.

If you're going to use it on a daily basis, I'd say the cheapest Epson you can find. There are plenty of 3rd party, generic cartridges for them.
Personally I wouldn't have one again after the print heads blocked on me. I was only using it once in a while and ( I'm reliably informed ), Epsons don't like that. However if in daily use they're more than up to the job. My original ancient H.P. has served me well and since I got the C.I.S.S I'm saving a packet on ink and I'm sticking with it :thumb:

Cheers Tom

Tom, your a star mate :thumb: .

Thats all I'm looking for, something cheap that the kids can use. I know that if I bought anything at a price, my 6 year old daughter would have it wrecked within a fortnight.

Epson here too along with the C.I.S.S, absolutely brilliant at saving you ££££ on ink. :thumb:

most printers are the work of the devil....
