In have been brewing now for about a year with just the bare essentials 70l pots for HLT and BK and a cool box for a mash tun and a trusty thermometer.
about November time i wanted to have a go at a HERMS and came across the Electric Brewery site ( im sure most have ) and thought i would give it a go, i know that to a lot of people this would seem whey over the top, and it is whey over the top, but what i liked about it is that 1 it looks amazing and 2 the ability to control the mash temp like that, 3 easy to follow instructions, so i started to order the parts i got the elements i got the pids and the timer all switches but got stuck when it came to the other parts the relays, i then realized that i would need to convert them to uk spec.
So my question is has anyone done this or would they know what relays and SSR relays i would need, i have asked a few people but i get them answers that just do not help, you should just do it like this or do it like that and things like you dont need all of them Pids you could do it this way, the thing is i just want to do it like that but without the voltage meters at the top of the control box so if anyone could help i would be eternally    great full

Hi
I've only had a quick look at the Electric Brewery Website, but assuming that your PID gives an output of 12V DC then any 40A SSR that can cope with that input and can handle an output of 240V AC, (assuming your elements are 240V) should work. Auber Instruments do one or there are a number of cheaper models on ebay. Many of them have an input of 3-32V DC and an 24-380V AC output.

Hope this helps

(Bk boil kettle)

thanks for the reply on the relay but the main problem is the power relays because the elements are 5500 watts they would need to be 30 amp im guessing and thats where i am finding trouble locating the correct type for example i search for a relay and it comes up with thousands of different types and different codes to the us ones

Daz, how many 5.5kW elements do you want to run at the same time?
One on its own will draw 23 amps!
just one at a time, one for the HLT with the HERMS in side, and then one for the boil.
I want to use the 5500 watt elements because i am not sure the 3000 watt elements will give a good rolling boil on there own but on reading Simonransons build he says they do, so maybe i could use them elements, but i would only like to have one on at any time.

so if i run down the parts i all ready have, they are as follows
3 times auber SYL-2352 pids
2 5500 watt elements
all the switches and lights at 240 v
the enclosure

its just the relays i am stuck on as you can see its different codes over there, they are using 30A/240V DPDT or DPST relay with 120V AC coil and this is what i need converting to UK spec .
i did find this but not sure if this is what i need http://uk.farnell.com/finder/62-82-8-23 ... dp/1169277

Hi
I think the one you have found from Farnell should work, i believe DPCO is equivalent to DPDT.

This one appears to meet the spec but is currently out of stock until April

This one from Maplins is only a Single pole, so you would need twice as many
