Got some First Gold growing now from a pot. If you're hanging around and can give me 5 mins I'll take a pic and post it - brb
:D

Here you are. This one is first season so not expecting anything truly wonderful from it this year. Growth has slowed a little over the past week - and this is a dwarf variety so should top out around 2m with any luck.

Hope that helps

Kwl how many brews you get out of that plant?

Probably not too many this season, I was (optimistically) hoping for about 3 - 400g of decent hops - but several times that next season.

kwl r u from the uk? where you get ur seeds from?

Don't buy seeds, buy a rhizome. There are quite a few good places selling, aplus hops is one; I bought mine from essentiallyhops.com.
You may even find several people in here swapping/selling around January next year (ish)

so when should i get one planted ?

Plant in early spring. I got mine from aplus hops and they seem to be doing OK, though nothing like as well as Tony's. Then again I only planyed mine in early May....

Mine are also in pots. Will be moving soon so didnt want to plant them in the soil just yet.

Whats a good plant to get that will produce alot of hops?

Exactly as jonewer says! I planted mine in the pot in late February (you have to keep the rhizome damp) but kept it in the shed until the frosts were over - or a reasonably good risk of nothing severe - moved outside mid-march. I think it broke the surface in early April.

I'm planning to keep mine in the pot as the rhizomes spread rather successfully underground. I can already hear my wife's 'voice' in my ear should we discover next year that the garden has developed into a wonderfully successful hop-farm!
