Hi, could anyone help please ,put together a coopers Pilsner 3days ago ,there is no action what so ever in bucket ,it's at a steady 18c ,don't know what to do any suggestions? Cheers ,still a relatively newbie at this
Never did any of these kits butfrom what I read it uses a proper lager yeast then it will be bottom fermenting, you could take a gravity check but if I was you I would get that temp down from 18úc regardless of what kit instructions say
If its the black label pilsner I think it uses a blend of ale yeast and lager yeast so 18ðC is about right. I did the black label one and it was the best lager kit I brewed (at ale temps). Can;t remember how much activity it produces while fermenting. Take a gravity reading to see if dropped. I suspect it is fermenting just with little visible activity.
If its the green label kit then I think that is a true lager yeast so wants to be brewed at 15ðC.
Edit: just to add, the only likely way of killing a sachet yeast is to add it to a very warm wort - was the mixed wort down to 20ðC or below before adding the yeast.
I suppose if the yeast has been stored (by you or the supplier) in very high or very cold temps the yeast could have been damaged but very unlikely I would have thought.
How old is the kit, and therefore the yeast?
If it's near or past it's use by date that will mean the yeast will be less likely to get going as it should.
