+1 for Castelton, plenty hotels and pubs all over the Hope valley.

If you like walking theres lots of good walks which you can follow up with a good pint. And if it's raining you can check out the caves which are well worth it.

If you do go to Casteleton then be sure and check out the Devil's Arse!

Northumberland, plenty of fine pubs and beers

Seahouse - the old Ship in over 9 guest and regular ales

Lower Newton- Ship in. Lovely pub and they have there own brewery.

As for hotels some good 3 star hotels in bamburgh and Walkworth.

My favourite part of the world, big beaches skies and not many people, but shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell to many people.

Well looked at all the recommendations people put forward. I was tempted for Chester as a few of you suggested. Castleton, Ledbury Oxford looked at them all. Got a headache from it too :)

The walking one Pearlfisher put forward i will keep in mind for the summer months as that sounded and looked interesting.

Finally opted for a Newcastle. Really wanted one with leisure facilities being the time of year due to weather conditions in Autumn.

Thanks to you all  big raps for all you help.

Regards.

Monmouth, Mid Wales if you don't mind stretching the mileage a bit.

There is a hotel there that has a very good resteraunt and excellent rooms, 3 star as there are no lifts, but very nice and friendly.

There are two other pubs within staggering distance of the hotel and they all have a half dedcent beer on the bar.

If you're interested I'll dig out the contact details for the hotel :)

I did briefly meet Lembit Opic (spelling?) in one of the pubs, but don't let that put you off ;)
