Hi i put some cider on last sunday which is bubbling away nicely now. I just added yeast and no campden powder. Should I have added this at the start??

Should I add it now. Or shall I add it when the fermentation stops?

Campden tablets or metabisulphite powder are added to a fresh must to clean it up and knock out any wild yeasts, but its protection soon wears off, then you will usually add your own yeast the next day.

As you have already pitched your yeast and fermentation is well underway it's too late to add campden now.

You probably shouldn't be adding it at the end either if you want a sparkling cider.

How do you know they want a sparkaling cider Moley, have i missed somthing. Is there no end to your amazing powers of wine makeing.

Cheers Graham.

I said “if you want a sparkling cider”, but should perhaps have said to add sulphite if making a still cider.

Joe: Carry on with it, my guess would be that it should be fine.
