Or you could just buy the overbraid on its own? This is what I am considering for my build....

It's sold for mainly automotive purposes - i.e. so boy racers can make their engines look pretty

What are the advantages/disadvantages of this compared to a false bottom? It would certainly work out cheaper....

I've managed, at last, to finish the false bottom for my MT........I went the plastics route; no probs. (I'll try to add a picture)

But, the false bottom for the Boiler was a different story!

Boiler false bottom:-
First attempt: SS mesh; cut to size easily with tin snippers but the problem was getting the "silly-con" to keep its shape round the mesh :x .
The tubing was easy to slice in a straight line using a hooked blade for a retractable blade knife but despite bending, twisting, heating, and, verbal persuasion it still wouldn't cooperate
My plan for a sleek metalic false bottom using mesh was set aside!

Having looked at alternatives, eventually, when I could find the time, I too opted for the flexi hose solution!

A simple ss hose 15mm x 15mm x 1000mm with 10mm bore from Screwfix (removed the rubber tube). hose clips x 2, one 10mm equal 'T', and some 10mm copper tubing. :D
Total time for construction = 10mins.
This was/is definitely a hassle free solution

Another inexpensive option is SS braid off of water supply lines. Toilet supply lines and washer supply lines have stainless braid over them, just push the tubing out and used the braid as a false bottom. I've been using this one for 6 years now and I get 80%+ efficiency with no stuck sparges.

Great idea!

Yep!
Its been around for years!
As my AG system is built now; my first brew is the Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild...which is almost complete as I'm typing this.
