Hi guys,
I used to store my cornies and gas in a well ventilated garage and never worried about c02 levels but now i am building a keezer to house cornies and gas bottle and will be keeping it inside.

Does anyone know where you can buy those little detectors like the carbon monoxide ones that change colour but for c02 or am i worrying unessecarily??

You can get them from BES but they're not cheap. If I had co2 in the house i'd probably be tempted by one but normally you should be ok. Pub cellars don't normally have one, but then again they're better ventilated than your usual house.

Carbon Dioxide is nowhere near as dangerous as carbon MONOXIDE.

While both are odourless, the effects are vastly different.

Our body is set up to detect carbon dioxide in our bloodstream, we respond by increasing our breathing. A raised level of carbon dioxide will be obvious because you have a biologocal reaction to it. Unless Oxygen levels were also to drop, you would be at no risk of passing out. The risks are so small, that even though CO2 is heavier than air, so could sit in a cellar and gradually fill it up, pubs are under no obligation to fit detectors and alarms for CO2.

Carbon MONOXIDE on the other hand is deadly. It combines with the haemoglobin in our blood, preventing it from carrying oxygen. A small amount of carbon monoxide will create nausea, headaches and unconsciousness, but continued exposure will render ALL your haemoglobin useless, and then the body cannot transport oxygen, and you die. End of. It kills plenty of people every year, and puts plenty more in hospital for a few days, until their red blood cells can recover (the affected ones have to die off and be replaced by healthy new ones)...
