It is very sad, and thanks again for the kind wishes.

We still have her sister, Misty, and while it feels very odd indeed going out for a walk without Smudge, at least we still have Misty to look after, and she's coping so well, it's a huge relief to us all, because we had feared she would pine away for Smudge, but she doesn't seem to be as badly affetced by her loss as we had feared she might

a mate who lost his dog recently sent me this.

I'm afraid to say I can't read it without shedding a few tears

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this, the last battle, can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree,
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you,
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close,we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

So sorry for your loss. We have had our dog about 5 mnths now and it's like she has always been with us. So I can't begin to think how much you are missing her. You live in a FABULOUS place and can be happy she had a very active and full-filling life out in the wilds. What dog could want for more. ;)

I am sorry for your loss mate, I dread the day when mine leaves us. He is 13 this year but still gooing strong. I will raise a glass for her.

All the best

AG

Neraly 14 years old, a good innings, but went downhill very quickly in the last 12 hours with heart and lungs failing her, so was put to sleep this morning

that is one hell of a great shot there.

sorry to hear about your loss. never an easy time, my thoughts are with you

So sorry to hear of your loss BigYin :(
You did the right thing, the only thing, but that won't help.
We lost one of our dogs, Bria, on Thursday also, she was only 7...what a S**t day all round.
Up until I read that poem I'd been doing well, not having shed a tear for 24hrs...you bugger

You'll never forget them, you'll just stop thinking of them so often as time goes by, but for the moment be on your guard...up'll pop a memory and the tears will start...happened to me in Tesco's buying carrots which she loved so much.

Thanks Vossy. Really sorry to hear about your dog - that's awful young to lose one :(

I have to thank one of my 'friends' for that poem   :nono: It'd bring a tear to a glass eye if you've had a dog pass away on you
