Brewnight: Make mine a coke

Evening all

Happened across some crazy syrups in y my Polish store....the cola one took my fancy ������

6 x 420ml Herbapol cola syrup
1kg sugar
Topped up to 25L with water
Cider yeast with sweetener (eBay special)

Warmed up a pan of water, sugar and 4 bottles of syrup (approx 4L), until hot to the touch

Put 5L or so of water in the FV with the other two bottles of syrup, then tipped in the hot stuff and topped up to 25L

With temp ca. 24 deg pitched the yeast and bunged in the cupboard

SG 1.045, so about 6% abv when fermented out to 1.000
Edit: oops, with primer (I like it fizzy), it's going to be more like 6.75%

Does the syrup taste like coke Roddy?

and its weird you did this as today I was actually thinking about finding/making a standard cola style drink as me bruv loves the stuff and I also wondered what an alcoholic version would be like, then I come on here and see your thread!

Haha Yeh I'd been thinking about it off and on too but couldn't be arsed with the prospect of boiling up regular coke and using that

Yeh the syrup tastes a bit like sodastream cola concentrate if you remember that stuff 😃

I've boiled coca cola a few times, but normally with Chinese spices and chicken. Try it :-)

Have also always wondered how this would turn out.

Yeah, I make loads of barbecue sauce with it over the summer. Tremendous stuff.

When it's boiled for ages it makes the meat soft (think it's the acids) and turns into sweet sticky bbq like sauce. Mmmmmm

Try it with a pork shoulder.... amazing.

I've got one of those massive George Foreman grills that come on a stand and look like a barbecue. I can get in from work and go from 0 to serving in about 10 mins. I do like my proper charcoal kettle as well though, for when I've got a little more time.

God, I really want a barbecue now...

Yeh I've been through a few barbies, including gas ones, but like my weber the best 😎

They are good, yeah.

Beer-butt chicken, nice. I did one with a can of cider once and it was bloody lovely.

Tell me about it! I've got an Aldi own brand Mug Shot thing and a tin of mackerel.! I'd be tempted by Wetherspoon's for my lunch, but I've got about 847 meetings and a disciplinary hearing this afternoon... booo.!

Haha, not FOR me... I'll be the one peddling someone.

I suspended him and he said he'd get me knifed... so I said "I'd better get your hearing done quickly then eh, so I can get shot of you before I get knifed". Honestly, these Wiganers, all they think about is fighting.!
