Hi Guys

Wondering if you could help. For Christmas I got a Samsons Cider Brewing Kit and 1kg of brewing sugar. The instructions for the kit is to use 1.5kg of sugar so was wondering what would happen if i only used 1kg?

Thanks in advance and happy new year!

Paul

My guess would be there wouldn't be enough sugar for the kit to ferment as it was intended, so could well end up with a lower abv.

Where are you? I'm sure someone can recommend a LHBS near you who can top you up! :thumb:

It would just lower the alcohol volume of the finished drink. Wilkos sell brewing sugar if you have one near you. for my cider kit I just used normal granulated sugar. Haven't tasted it yet though. For my wines I use granulated sugar and they all turn out fine.

If you use just 1kg you'll end up with a weaker but almost certainly drinkable cider. Using granulated/caster sugar works just fine. Apparently it tastes a bit different but I'm not sure, I've only used brewing sugar once and I've yet to taste the outcome.

Cheers Guys, extra bag of tate and lyle on the shopping list it is!. We were having this discussion at home about how different brewing sugar is to granulated, I've never used brewing sugar before but it seems finer, will give it a bash

Cheers

Paul

Hope it goes well for you.

I've nearly finished a On The Rocks cider kit, I used granulated instead of brewing sugar.
