Whilst chatting to a mate in the know this evening I learned that Brewdog don't brew their own beers!! It seems that whilst the company invent their recipes, they now contract out the physical brewing.

lol, eh, except for the new massive brewery they've just moved into...

They did alot of contract work (with Brewdog brewers) at Meantime to keep up with demand. I doubt weather James has seen the warm end of a malt shovel in a good few months.

I'll stop before I say something uncomplimentary. :nah:

Yup, brew dog struggled to keep up with demand so outsourced, I believe some of the stuff was made in Belgium a year or so ago. If you've drunk their beers for a while you'll know they've changed, that's the problem with known beers, even if there's a shortage of a particular hop the punter in the supermarket still expects the same product.
On the whole I think they're doing a good job but their brewery is now it's own monster and not really under their control, which is a good and a bad thing, good for the mass market and their pocket, not so good for those who liked them originally.

By all accounts its not their brewery. It's simply on contract to brew some of their beers.

Except it was paid for by flogging many millions of quid worth of equity in brew dog to fund they build.

They won business awards for the scheme and everything.

SOME brewdog beer is brewed for them. Punk in cans IIRC is thwaites or brains, can't recall which.

huh, didnt know any of this? interesting
pretty sure the 77 pilsner i had recently was brewed in norway now that i think about it

Just what I thought about brewdog all along hyped up mass produced fizzy Sh*te, in a few years they will be sponsoring the Premiership

So whose is it, has someone just built a brewery to brew for other breweries or is it just for brewdog? Does it matter where it is brewed? If it is there recipe then surely its still brewdog beer :???:

I think, given the big brewdog logos all over the tanks...

...and a "metal" octopus...

...I really can't see it being anyone else's but brewdog's.

I think Calum has explained it. Its quite simple the brewery was paid for by equity investors, people who put in their hard earned cash for a stake in the business.

As he says also so of the stuff put in cans is contracted out.

But if you look Here then you will see there new big brewery on their website.

Well I can't be right all the time...

...CANNED at Thwaites, brewed at Brewdog...

http://www.brewdog.com/media/downloads/newsletters/HopProp07.pdf

The cans are filled at Daniel Thwaites Brewery. The beer is brewed at BrewDog, double dry hopped and lightly filtered at our Fraserburgh HQ as usual. We then send the beer down all ready to package, to the same very lightly filtered specification we use on our bottled and kegged beers.

Ah ha!!!

I can be right all the time!!!

From a blog post...

To help with capacity until we get to the new brewery (which starts building in February) we have brewed one batch at Thwaites so far. It was packaged in November last year and the beer was great.

TBF to BD, if they have to pay the devil for the long term gain of bringing non mediocre beers to the market, I for 1 am prepared to pay the price :drink: :hat: :hat:

Total *****. They do lots of brewing. I have met several of the brewers, great bunch of guys. I've also know one of the guys who painted the artwork in the place. It's a truly amazing brewery. Spent a very pleasant afternoon wandering round it drinking at the official opening day.

They did outsource some of the production at some point, most notably 77 lager, which is gonna be shelved now.

All I can go on is the conversations had with a master brewer friend who, when placing an order with Charles Faram & Co and generally chatting about the rising cost of US hops, made a throwaway comment along the lines of "I bet you love it when Brewdog call in an order" to which the reply was "Brewdog don't buy but hops but its always nice when one of their brewers orders." Following that a conversation arose about how the company themselves don't own any premises or equipment but the entire set up is leased and contracted out to brewers.

Take from that, what you will.
