Hi,
I'm planning on doing a Brewdog Citra which is #55 in the diy dog pdf, basically a single hop IPA, as I have pretty much all of the ingredients already. It calls for the following hop additions:
2.5g at 60 mins
10g at 30 mins
37.5g at 60 mins

It quotes an IBU of 70. I'm still relatively new at all grain but that seems like low early hop additions for that IBU, also is 50g of total hops enough for a decent flavour/aroma?

Matt

Yeh something's not right there. I calculate that to come in about 15 IBU. Even if there was a rogue decimal place in the first addition (i.e. it should be 25g) then the total IBU would be 48. Head scratcher....

I just ran the numbers and it's clear that the numbers don't tally. Just play with the additions in brewing software until you get close. I'd be inclined to put more hops into the middle and end rather than using a load of Citra at the start of the boil.

Maybe go for 10g at 60 minutes. 50g with 20 minutes remaining, and another 80g with 5 minutes to go.

Depending on what you are going after. I would also likely put in a big dry hop addition, but that's just me. That isn't true to the recipe.

Thanks guys, I was pretty sure it didn't sound right! I have 70g of Chinook and 100g of Citra so I might use the Chinook mostly in the boil and keep most of the Citra to dry hop. What do you reckon? I'm not too fussed about trying to clone this particular beer, just figured I had the ingredients for it.

Sounds sensible to me.
