See I put it in the wort and wondered if there was a possibility it would work ok. I'm bottling tomorrow so I guess time will tell.

It's certainly doable but it's not recommended. I hope it worked out for you. Bit a builders trug is only a few quid in Homebase or somewhere so that might be a better option next time.
